Filmmaker Angie-Pepper O’Bomsawin profiles a new college (CEGEP) in Odanak, Quebec that was founded to serve the Aboriginal community.

The directors and students talk in this short documentary about the benefits of learning in an educational institution that incorporates Aboriginal culture and world view.

The college is called “Kiuna”, which means “ours” in Abenaki.

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT FOR POST-SECONDARY STUDENTS

Please see attached announcement regarding the Kahnawake Education Center’s Incentive Award Program.

The Post Secondary Program hosted an Incentive Awards celebration on Thursday, October 27 to honor the 38 full students who qualified for the awards.

The group include:

  • a Doctorate Degree award,
  • a Master’s Degree Award and
  • 6 Bachelor’s Degree awards.
  • the remainder were for academic achievement.

Thirteen recipients and their families and friends attended the evening along with the Post Secondary Counselor, Nadine E. Montour, Director of Education, Donna Lahache and Mohawk Council Chief Kahsennenhawe Skye Deer who holds the Education Portfolio.

We’d like to congratulate all of the students again and encourage all students to continue to work diligently towards their goals!!
