Kahnawake Combined Schools Committee

_________________________________________________________________________________________________

The Kahnawa:ke Combined Schools Committee (KCSC) was established in 1968 through the unification of the Catholic and the United Church Federal Indian Day Schools.

The Unification Agreement and a Mohawk Council Resolution recognized the Committee’s right and responsibility to oversee all education programs, services and funds in the community.

Community parents approved a new constitution in 1997 significantly changing the parent membership from denominational representation to representation by community and outside schools. There are currently ten parent representatives on the Committee.

The Committee is mandated to supervise all developmental and operational activities of the Kahnawa:ke Education system. It develops and approves policy and procedures, supervises the operation of the Center and the community schools, makes recommendations for planning and funding to provide quality programs and services, and delegates financial and administrative management of the education system to the Kahnawa:ke Education Center.
